In Pretotype It (2011), Alberto Savoia describes Jeff Hawkins carrying a wooden block the size of a Palm Pilot in his shirt pocket for weeks before building anything, pretending to take notes and check his calendar to see whether the form factor fit into daily life. The block could not do anything, which was the point: the test was about behavior, not features.
